Gorikana Storyline
Corvina is a girl who grows up in isolation and is raised by her sick mother. For her, human contact is associated with fear of rejection, but she desperately wants to be part of a community. Admission to the mysterious Verenmore University gives her the chance of a fresh start, but her past is not easy to overcome, especially when you are afraid of losing your mind.
Vad is a young professor with a bad reputation. He is mysterious, sinister and Corvina is immediately fascinated by him. As much as they try to stay away from each other, the two are like poles apart, strongly attracted to each other. They begin a secret relationship, but Corvina doesn’t know how much she can trust Wade or which rumors about him are true.
Opinion
“Gothicana is one of the most eerily dark novels I’ve ever read. It’s set in an eerie, haunted college, surrounded by a mysterious lake, a creepy forest and a backwoodsman. The atmosphere conveyed by RuNyx will make your hair stand on end. The characters slip through dark corridors and secret tunnels as they try to solve the brutal murders and bizarre suicides on the grounds. The plot is interesting, there are unexpected twists and turns and I definitely found it interesting to follow the progress of the investigation and uncover Wade’s past.
The book has a romance between a professor and a student, but it’s not a taboo story. Corvina is only a few years younger than Vad, although he passes for a sexy “silver fox” with his lock of white hair. “Gothicana” is a hot book, no question about it. But for me personally, it lacked the suspense and anticipation that usually accompanies love stories. I didn’t find this plot line particularly interesting and would have preferred to skip it if I could have.
My rating
If you’re in the mood for a dark academic novel, I would definitely recommend Gothicana. For me, the book belongs in the “4 star” category and whets the appetite for more gothic history.
The eternal romance of Beauty and the Beast meets the gothic suspense of Dracula in this erotic dark academia story of epic love from bestselling author RuNyx.
“RuNyx immerses her readers in the dark worlds she builds and then injects life into them in the most hauntingly beautiful way. Her work is unique and addictive—she really is one of a kind.”–Hannah Grace, New York Times bestselling author of ICEBREAKER
“Original, innovative, and unlike anything I’ve read before.”―L. J. Shen, USA Today bestselling author
An unusual girl. An enigmatic man. An ancient castle. What could go wrong?
An outcast her entire life, Corvina Clemm is left adrift after losing her mother. When she receives the admission letter from the mysterious University of Verenmore, she accepts it as a sign from the universe. The last thing she expects though is an old, secluded castle on top of a mountain riddled with secrets, deceit, and death.
An enigma his entire life, Vad Deverell likes being a closed book but knowing exactly everything that happens in the university. A part-time professor working on his thesis, Vad has been around long enough to know the dangers the castle possesses. And he knows the moment his path crosses with Corvina, she’s dangerous to everything that he is.
They shouldn’t have caught each other’s eye. They cannot be. But a chill-inducing century-old mystery forces them to collide. People have disappeared every five years over the past century, Corvina is getting clues to unraveling it all, and Vad needs to keep an eye on her.
And so begins a tale of the mysterious, the morbid, the macabre, and a deep love that blossoms in the unlikeliest of places.
