The First Law

The First Law is a fantasy series written by author Joe Abercrombie. The series is set in a world that is reminiscent of medieval times. It consists of several countries.

The union includes the provinces of Angland, Midderland, Dagoska, Starikland and the city of Westport.
The Gurkhul Empire extends south from the Union. Its layout is reminiscent of Middle Eastern empires of the past.
The north lies north of the Union and is populated by a harsh people reminiscent of nomadic tribes.
Styria is a large island continent to the east of the Union, containing numerous warring city-states and factions.
The Old Empire is a former world power to the west of the Union, now reduced to squabbling warlords all vying for the throne.
The Far Country is a nearly lawless border region north of the Old Empire and west of the province of Starikland .

The series consists of 3 books, 3 standalone novels and a second trilogy ” Age of Madness”.
