Book Review: “The Eye of the World” by Robert Jordan
Epic, Immersive, Unforgettable! It’s hard to find words that do justice to the work of Robert Jordan. It’s no coincidence that he’s often hailed as a worthy successor to Tolkien.…
Robert Jordan (James Oliver Rigney Jr.)
Robert Jordan was an American writer, born on October 17, 1948, in Charleston, South Carolina. He is best known as the author of the epic fantasy series The Wheel of Time.
From a young age, Jordan was an avid reader. According to him, he read The Adventures of Tom Sawyer by Mark Twain at the age of five. He graduated from The Citadel, The Military College of South Carolina, with a bachelor’s degree in physics in 1974. After graduating, he served as a nuclear engineer in the U.S. Navy and as a helicopter gunner in the Vietnam War.
Before working on The Wheel of Time, Jordan wrote historical novels under the pseudonym Reagan O’Neal. The first book in The Wheel of Time series, The Eye of the World, was published in 1990 and quickly became a bestseller.
The series eventually grew to 14 books and a prequel novel, becoming one of the most significant works in the epic fantasy genre. After Robert Jordan’s passing, The Wheel of Time was completed by Brandon Sanderson based on Jordan’s notes.
The series has been adapted for television by Amazon.
