Leigh Bardugo was born on April 6 1975, in Jerusalem, Israel. He grew up in Southern California in the San Fernando Valley. He graduated in 1997 with a Bachelor’s degree in English Philology from Yale University. After graduation, he worked in advertising, journalism, and even makeup and special effects.

Her first novel, Shadow and Bone, from the Grishaverse series, was published in 2012. Alina Starkov lives in the land of Ravka, bisected by the Valley of Death Shadow, a strip of nearly impenetrable darkness inhabited by monsters. Endowed with powers unimagined, she is brought to the palace to be trained as a Grishaverse, part of the wizard elite led by the mysterious Dark One. It has been published in over 50 countries around the world with a circulation of over 4 million copies. It has been approved for filming in a series.
